Maui is the high price tourist island, of Hawaii, with a number of exotic resorts.
We were able to anchor in good conditions, but there are few good anchorages.  Due to the disastrous fire of 1923 in Lahina there is virtually no dock space available.
There was an active program to rebuild, and to restore some of the historic structures.  The stonework of this building had survived, but has needed the visible support
We had a good hike in the highland desert of the Haleakala Winderness.  We drove to 9800 ft elevation, then followed well made trails, more down than up, to 6700 ft  for about 17 km, then a STEEP ziz-zag 1  kilometre back up to   part way back up to 8000 ft the road.

Vegetation is nil at the top, starts to show as we descend with trees at the bottom.
The long thin trails show up on the full size photos.
