Oahu
presents the classic US contrasts, modern wealthy city, with a sprinkling of
encampments of the homeless, and good mountain scenery. Also a very
nice climate and good hiking trails. |

As in the other Hawaiian islands,
anchorages and dock space are very limited. We were lucky enough to
snag a dock in the Waikiki Yacht Club, right downtown, beside Waikiki Beach. Very comfortable with friendly members and staff. (sorry, no photos of club) |

Although
albatross are generally considered to be birds of remote regions, there is a
nesting site only 20 miles or so from Honolulu. The birds survive
because the nearest road is about 3 miles away, and, more importantly the
Park Service has fenced off Ka'ena Point to keep rats and other egg eaters
out. |
