Fakarava is a world renowned diving site, but is still little developed.  We did not see any large, or even medium sized, hotels.  There were a dozen or so yachts spread around the 30 mile long lagoon.
There are a few dive shops, which gave good service filling tanks, as well as advice on dive sites.   It is the only place in the Tuamotus where diesel can be purchased from a dockside pump.  (There are none in the Marquesas)
There are lots of sharks, which do not bother divers, as Peter and Neil are demonstrating
We were surprised to see sharks swimming through shoals of these "mouthful-size" fish.

Are they too dumb to realize that sharks eat fish?

We were lucky to get close to  these rare Napoleon Wrasse.
They weigh around 150Kg, and live for about 30 years
