Fakarava is a world renowned diving site, but is still little developed. We did not see any large, or even medium sized, hotels. There were a dozen or so yachts spread around the 30 mile long lagoon. |

There are a few dive shops, which gave good service filling tanks, as well as advice on dive sites. It is the only place in the Tuamotus where diesel can be purchased from a dockside pump. (There are none in the Marquesas) |

We were surprised to see sharks
swimming through shoals of these "mouthful-size" fish. Are they too dumb to realize that sharks eat fish? |

were lucky to get close to these rare Napoleon Wrasse.They weigh around 150Kg, and live for about 30 years |
