After launching in Hiva Oa, we sailed a dozen miles to Tahuata, because the anchorage beside the boatyard is one of the few places in the Marquesas that the water unappetizing for swimming, or even for running the watermaker.
We anchored with several other boats in the uninhabited Hanamoena Bay.  Good snorkeling and an energetic trip ashore through the surf
We also spent a few days beside the village of Hapatoni on Tahuata.  We had hoped to repeat having a meal in the home of one of the locals who provide these services, but a micro cruise ship was there.  The National Geographic was running a tour of the islands with a hundred or so passengers.  The local put on a good show for them, which we were invited to join, but did not have time for home meals.
Hiking is pretty much limited to the (VERY quiet) roads because the jungle is thick and the small population does not cut trails.
We were in mango season, so ate lots, although were were advised against picking up from the thousands that fell to the ground.  These ones had rolled into the ditch on a hill.
The mayor was out to welcome the tourists off the cruise ship.

Extensive tattoos are common, but this is the most tattooed person we saw anywhere in the Marquesas.
