The island of Ua Po is best known for its spectacular rock spires, although they are often hidden in mist.

We were quit lucky to see them so well on two short visits.
Unfortunately, the island is suffering from an 18-year drought, and whole hillsides are covered with dead trees.  Some are visible on the upper slopes in the picture.

Heather and André went for a walk, and were invited to lunch by the mayor.
Stone tikis are a sign of resurgence of the traditional culture since France relaxed its grip in 1984

Despite the drought, vegetation seems healthy in the valley bottoms.
There are few beaches.

This house tucked into the trees has a great view, but no beach.
