Darwin 150 years ago, these islands were uninhabited when the first
Europeans arrived about 500 years ago. The iconic giant tortoises are the best known wildlife, but the variety of other animals is fairly small. |

Sitting right on the Equator, about 900 miles West of the Panama Canal, they
were little visited until about 2000, but have now become something of an
